YOUTH SHOWMANSHIP & OPEN SHOW RULES:
- Entries are on a first-come, first-served basis until space runs out
- All entries must be on the grounds before 8:30am
- All goats must comply with CT Department of Agriculture Regulations and all animals will be inspected before being offloaded from vehicles, any entry may be rejected due to health reasons
- In-state animals: All goats must have official USDA-approved identification and health certificate issued within 60 days of their first show by an accredited veterinarian stating that the animals are in good health and not showing signs of infectious, contagious and/or communicable diseases and not from scrapie-exposed herds.
- Out-of-state animals: All animals and birds (except horses) must have an exhibition permit number on the health certificate. Call 860-713-2504 or 860-713-2508 for permit number. All goats must have official USDA-approved identification and health certificate issued within 30 days of their first show by an accredited veterinarian stating that the animals are in good health and not showing signs of infectious, contagious and/or communicable diseases and not from scrapie-exposed herds. All goats must originate from Brucellosis and TB-free herds. Goats over 3 months old must test negative to TB and Brucellosis within 12 months of the new show date. Kids under 3 months of age may go on the dam’s test chart if the dam was tested within the past 12 months and a copy of the results is provided. Wethers are exempt from Brucellosis testing. - Acceptable “Official ID” is a tattoo that reads loud and clear and matches the registration paper and current health certificate
- All registration papers must be presented at check-in; for animals under 6 months of age, a duplicate copy of registration is acceptable
- Show clothes are required for showmanship (show whites, khaki pants for youth showmanship are allowed), all must wear closed-toe footwear
- Age for youth exhibitor is as of the date of the show
- Age of animal is also as of the date of the show, goats under 1 month of age will not be shown
- Any milking animal showing over-distension of the udder is subject to discrimination by the judge, no pre-show milk out
- NO horned goats or intact males will be allowed on the fairgrounds
- Exhibitors must supply their own hay, feed, and care (straw or hay bedding only); any inhumane treatment or neglect of livestock will not be tolerated
- This is a “trailer show,” exhibitors must leave their area in the same condition as they found it, bedding will be able to be brought to the manure pile
- No more than 10 goats per farm or family
- Judges’ decisions are final
- No vehicles are allowed to leave the fairgrounds until released by the fair board
